Chicken Nuggets, or The Horror of Mechanically Separated Chicken
via gizmodo.com
If you thought Meatloaf Baby was horrifying, then please let me introduce you to the pink goop that composes something people eat every day (unlike Meatloaf Baby).
This is mechanically separated chicken and it makes up your chicken nuggets. You know, those things you toss in the oven for a quick meal for the kiddies or pick up at the Drive-Thru? Well, here's more about the goop:
Because it's crawling with bacteria, it will be washed with ammonia, soaked in it, actually. Then, because it tastes gross, it will be reflavored artificially. Then, because it is weirdly pink, it will be dyed with artificial color.
Seriously, this sounds delicious. I hope Alice Waters is reading this so she can add them to her menu in the near future. Pink Goop Paté or Mechanically Separated Confit sounds amazing!
