Ellen and John McCain

If you missed John McCain's appearance on Ellen's show (like I did), the miracle that is YouTube will let us all watch it together.

I like that Senator McCain has really thought through his position on gay marriage and can make a cogent argument against it. Yeah, cogent. . .

It blows my mind that someone would go on Ellen right after California legalized same-sex marriage and she announced her wedding and could still somehow seem unprepared to talk about same-sex marriage. Like, really? Did you think you'd be talking about Medicare?

Todd, do you still think that gay marriage is just an accepted fact and that's why it ranked low in the poll of American concerns?

No, I'm not enough of a pollyanna to believe that gay marriage is an "accepted fact" in America yet. However, people are much more aware of the issue now, and the strangeness is, frankly, wearing off. Miscegenation was unthinkable 100 years ago in certain quarters. Now, I can't imagine someone finding much political or mainstream support for denying or denouncing mixed race marriages and coupling.

We're seeing the beginning of the "dulling down" of gay marriage. The media will pay less and less attention, and the fear, hatred and intolerance will be pushed more and more to the fringes of our society.

Todd, I hate to tell you this but interracial marriage or even dating is not well tolerated in the Black community. As someone who worked in a nonprofit situation which was at least 60% Black, the comment made by Barrack Obama's Minister is very common. I applaud but don't agree with his(Obama's Minister) comments but at least he is honest about his beliefs.
The reason why I asked is that John McCain was unprepared to discuss the issue with Ellen Degenerous. That's not a good sign for gay marriage because it shows, at least to me, that because polls show it to be an unimportant issue it will be swept under the rug, but as McCain said I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.
